NEED is not a volunteer strategy!
Yet this is exactly how many churches recruit volunteers. It seems that they are always frantically trying to find folks to fill in the spots vacated by no-shows or the uncommitted. This is why it’s so important to staff your volunteer positions out of the goals of your mission. A huge issue related to small and mid-size churches is that they tend to offer “too many” opportunities. We find that it’s much better in the long run for a ministry to provide one or two ministries that are done with excellence than to attempt to offer twenty ministries that are done poorly.
